Joan “Joanie” Rose Balzer, a wonderful sister, aunt, and friend left this earth on March 25, 2023, at the age of 80. She was one of five children born to Truman Loy and Irene Alexander on March 29, 1942, in El Reno, Oklahoma.
Joanie lived in several places in her 80 years (California, Arizona, Colorado) but chose Oklahoma as her final place to live. Joanie worked most of her adult life at Neenah Foundry. Retiring after 24 years.
Joanie was preceded in death by her dad Truman Loy Alexander, her mom Irene Alexander, her brother John Alexander, and her brother Carroll Alexander.
Joanie is survived by her sister Susie Weted whom she lived with the past 26 years. Sister Dorothy Towler and husband Harold. She had many nephews and nieces all of whom she loved and touched deeply. She also had many great-nieces and nephews a few of them would also have children and give her great-great nieces and nephews.
She loved spending summers with her great-nieces Kailey and Savannah. They loved their time together. Spending every summer collecting tickets for prizes. They would win thousands saving them until the end of summer to buy a lot of the “big” prizes! She also loved time with her great nephew Cameron. They would spend time at Remington Park betting the horses and playing the slots. Remington Park was her favorite fun place with her sister, Susie. They would spend every Sunday in the players club beating on a lot of the race tracks in the United States. Her favorite race was the Kentucky Derby.
Joanie always had a special love for all the animals she cared for. Joanie was always known to carry dog treats in her pocket to give the dogs when she would visit. Her latest animal love was Patches a cat she adopted that was a stray in the neighborhood.
Joanie will be remembered in so many ways. We will miss her so much!
Her celebration of life will be Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 10 am, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Oklahoma City. Committal Service to follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
