It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmie Rogers, an extraordinary and thoughtful human being who touched the lives of many. Often described as an “Old Soul,” Jimmie’s wisdom and kindness resonated with everyone he encountered.
Jimmie’s unwavering dedication to his family and country was exemplified by his service in the armed forces, where he displayed immense courage during his time in Vietnam, earning the Purple Heart for his selfless acts of bravery. A true patriot, he always held his family close to his heart.
Jimmie’s remarkable journey took him from the battlefield to the baseball diamonds to the ranches. He once proudly donned the uniform of the New York Yankees, showcasing his athletic prowess and passion for the game. After retiring from his sports career, he found solace as a cattle rancher, tending to the land and nurturing life.
An exceptional husband, he cherished his late wife Janet and, in his later years, found love and companionship with Victoria. Jimmie’s devotion to his son Jeffery was a testament to his character as a loving and caring father.
Jimmie’s legacy of giving knew no bounds. His heart overflowed with generosity and compassion, which he expressed in numerous ways. He selflessly coached youth baseball, imparting life lessons and igniting young passions. His presence was a constant in the community, offering support and comfort to those in need.
A devout attendee at church, Jimmie’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He had a penchant for making others smile, often surprising children with boxes of toys and gifting nurses with jewelry during his visits to the VA hospital.
Jimmie’s heart of gold, his giving spirit, and his ability to touch lives will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness that will continue to inspire us all.
As we mourn the loss of a great man, we also celebrate the gift of his presence in our lives. Jimmie’s spirit will live on through the lives he has touched, the stories he has shared, and the love he has given.
A chapel service will take place on Wednesday, August 30th 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
Following the service, burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Rest in peace, Jimmie. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
