Jimmie Lee Hurley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 21, 2024, at the age of 90, surrounded by the love of his family, shortly after a joyful Father’s Day gathering where he indulged in two of his favorite things: family and shrimp cocktail.
Jim, as he was affectionately known, was born on March 21, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to James Virgil Jr. and Mary Louise Hurley. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Oklahoma, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He later earned a Law Degree from Oklahoma City University in 1966.
His career spanned many years and achievements. Throughout his life, he worked as a geologist, an attorney, and a real estate developer. He was immensely proud of his contributions to the development of Oklahoma City. He contributed to the initial development of Quail Creek, converted and developed multiple apartment complexes and condos, worked on the development of Glengate, was the receiver for the Waterford, and worked with many other struggling developments. He worked for BankFirst, served as the Executive Vice President and Advisory Director for Savers in Little Rock, AR, and worked as a Federal Contractor. Over the course of 50 years, he developed approximately 100,000 square feet of commercial office space and was involved in nearly a million square feet of residential development. His family, friends, and colleagues will see the fruits of his hard work and perseverance throughout Oklahoma City for years to come.
In 1961, Jim married the love of his life, Jan Scott, and they celebrated 63 wonderful years together this past January. Jim was a devoted husband to Jan and a proud father to their son, Brad. He cherished his role as Oppa to his two grandchildren, Lexi and Zach, for the past 25 years, and was lovingly known as Uncle Jim to his nephews.
Jim embraced retirement with gusto, pursuing his passions for fishing, golfing, and painting. Anything he did, he did wholeheartedly and with commitment. He particularly enjoyed spending time at Lake Eufaula with his family, teaching Zach to fish and playing school with Lexi.
The Hurley family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tina Clagg, Jim’s dedicated caregiver, whose unwavering love, care, and kindness enriched Jim’s life over the past year and a half.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and hard work cherished by his wife, Jan; son, Brad; grandchildren, Lexi and Zach; and numerous family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper (6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116) on Friday, June 28, from 4:00 - 6:00pm. A memorial service will follow at the same location on Saturday, June 29, at 11:00am, where friends and family will gather to celebrate Jim’s life and legacy.
Jim will be remembered for his warm heart, his zest for life, and his unwavering devotion to family. His spirit lives on in the memories and hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
