Jewel Marie Simpson (“Marie") passed away on May 21, 2023. Marie was born November 7, 1931, in Alden, Oklahoma to Jewel and Tommy Mathews. She was raised in Carnegie, Oklahoma and graduated from the Oklahoma School for the Blind in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1951. She married Charles M. Simpson on September 11, 1951, then moved to Oklahoma City in 1953 where they raised their two daughters, Glenda and Barbara. Marie worked as a dark room technician at Childrens’ Hospital for approximately 15 years. She retired in 1987.
Marie was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, watching game shows, especially “Jeopardy!” and cooking for her family. She particularly enjoyed baking desserts and cookies and her treats were loved and appreciated by everyone.
Marie is survived by her daughters Glenda Farnum and husband Gary of Oklahoma City; Barbara Hodges of Oklahoma City; her granddaughters Audrey T. Farnum of Oklahoma City and Kelli Loessberg and husband Alex of Edmond and great grandchildren Keelan, Finn and Allie, as well as extended family and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Charles M. Simpson, her Brother J.T. Mathews, and her parents.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2023 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
