Jerrie was born January 18, 1944 in Oklahoma City to Dorothy and Ward Fowler. She lived and went to school in OKC, graduating in 1962. In 1963, she married high school sweetheart Nick Kyle, and welcomed her son Christian Kyle into the world in 1969.
She was a devoted mother, started her own business with her good friend Carole Chugon, and worked as a medical assistant. In 1981, Jerrie happily remarried Thomas Smith, and became a mother for the second time - this time to seven kids from Tommy’s previous marriages. Jerrie went from being a mom of 1 to a mom of 8 overnight! But she loved Tommy and his children very much, and she and Tommy created a warm home for everyone in their orbit.
Jerrie loved to travel - she and Tommy took many trips together to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and many exciting locations thanks to Tommy’s softball league. She played tennis and danced with the Lynda Tarpley’s Tap troupe, and had many wonderful evenings cheering on Oklahoma Sooners football with the family.
After Tommy’s passing, Jerrie moved to Austin, and made fast friends in her new community, including Tom Shim, with whom she spent many evenings watching old movies and running to Dairy Queen for ice cream. It is a testament to her joyous and fun personality that in the little time she lived in Austin, she made many friends who will remember her fondly.
Jerrie leaves behind children Christian Kyle, Dana Brenneman, Bruce Smith, Greg Smith, Eric Smith, Tosha Smith, Ryan Smith, Tate Smith, and all of their spouses, partners, children, and grandchildren. Everyone who knew Jerrie knew her to be warm and loving. She never had an unkind word, and was welcoming to everyone who she met. She and Tommy made their house the life of the party - and we hope they are living it up right now playing dominoes and doing the chicken dance.
