Jean Warren went peacefully to be with the Lord on May 14, 2021. She was 88 years old. Jean was born on December 15, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Natalie Overall and William Kelly Warren. She was the sixth of seven children. Her sisters and brother remained dear to her all the days of her life. She graduated with a degree in Drama in 1955 from the University of Oklahoma. Jean was married to Stanton Young in 1954 and resided in Oklahoma City with their three children Marie Elise, Lee and Carol. Her children were the greatest joy of her life.
Jean was involved in a wide variety of pursuits. She was especially committed to assisting those in need, fostering the pursuit of excellence in education, and the Arts in Oklahoma City. Jean served on the Board of Directors of the W. K. Warren Foundation, Laureate Psychiatric Hospital, the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma County, Sunbeam Home and Family Services, the Oklahoma City Arts Museum, and the Allied Arts of Oklahoma City. She played the lead role in many productions at OU and the Lyric Theater. Jean served as the co-chair of the Robert F Kennedy campaign for President for the State of Oklahoma in 1968. Jean was particularly proud of her service as the Chairman of the Board of the College of the Ozarks. She was the first woman to serve in this role. She received an Honorary Doctorate from the College of the Ozarks. In her later years, Jean served on the Board of the Oklahoma School of Science and Math and the OU Honors College. In her late seventies, she served as a Stephens Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Jean found her service as a Stephens Minister to be extremely meaningful.
Jean could always be counted on to share her big laugh and radiant smile. She was enthusiastic about whatever interested you. She loved to dance, travel and spend time with friends and family. For 81 years, Jean spent the summer in La Jolla, California with her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It was the highlight of her year.
Jean is survived by daughter Marie Elise Howard and husband Ross; son Lee Warren Young and wife Laura; grandchildren Libby DeLucia-Harting, Michael and Billy DeLucia, Stephen and Anna Lee Young and Carter, Trevor and Alexandra Wright; great grandchildren Fiona DeLucia-Wood and Finn DeLucia-Harting; siblings Pat Swindle, Libby Blankenship and Bill Warren. She was predeceased by her parents Natalie and W.K. Warren, sisters Natalie Bryant, Dorothy King and Marilyn Vandever and daughter Carol Young. We will be forever indebted to the thoughtful, tender and joyful care of Donnita Benson, Camille Brown, Mary Gaddis, Letitia Machuca and Wadrienne Pugh during Jean's final years. The family will be holding a private service.
