Jarrod attended Choctaw schools, including Little Axe for his high school years. He loved school and riding the bus. Jarrod even got the chance to run out onto the ballfield in his jersey with the Little Axe football team for homecoming during his senior year. He loved to listen to music, watch movies, play games, play video games, and play different sports. Jarrod really enjoyed going to garage sales, meeting new people, getting out of the house to try new things, and visit with his cousins and other family. Jarrod’s favorite color was chosen based on the outfits he would wear throughout the day. Jarrod never failed to laugh over physical comedy such as the 3 Stooges and Tom and Jerry. He also has a long list of accomplishments having medals and ribbons of all kinds, including from the Special Olympics of Oklahoma and award certificates from his principal, the title of “Winner” at the Lake Thunderbird fishing tournament, and taking care of Sammy, his beautiful, sweet, and smart family dog that passed away one month earlier.
Jarrod never met a stranger, and he was always interested in others. He never wanted anybody to worry about anything. He would always reassure them that “everything is going to be okay.” In fact, Jarrod was quick to recognize when someone else was preoccupied or feeling blue. He loved to dress up and entertain people and he would always go out of his way to make you laugh. He had no fear when it came to a lot of things, including driving or riding; his bike, his go cart, his dad’s riding mower, and even his Uncle Micheal’s truck across their property.
He has a really humble sense of pride, and he loved his Momma with all his heart because she always made him feel safe, important, valued, worthy, confident, strong, smart, healthy, accomplished, missed when he wasn’t home, and loved. As Jarrod grew into adulthood, his mother wanted him to gain some worldly experience with others his age to allow him to expand his horizons and to develop a sense of self. The severance between them was painful on both sides, for the bond between a mother and son cannot be broken.
The loss of Jarrod is felt through everybody who knew him, but nothing compared to his family’s sense of loss and questioning. We must remind each other in these times that God will fight our battles for us. We pray each one of us learns from Jarrod in the way of being able to forgive even the meanest of enemies and loving the anyway. Isn’t this the lesson of the Good News? “Forgive them father for they know not what they do?” Just think of Jarrod dancing where he is at right now and showing just how happy and righteous he is. How he recognizes how proud and valuable each one of us is to him and out Lord God. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you for our time with Jarrod. Let us all leave here recognizing our rare opportunity of living, loving, and laughing with Jarrod here on this Earth and come away with a bit of that innocent love of his. Incorporate that into our own lived throughout our future, for we believe this will make our world a better place.
Let us picture Jarrod with Sammy, the exceptionally smart and beautiful fur baby, happily reunited together in their forever home.
