Born the l8th of October 1930, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Horace Edward Daves and Thelma Lucille (Phillips) Daves, she attended Elk City High School. After graduation, she attended St. Anthony Hospital's School of Nursing in Oklahoma City.
Jane married William “Bill” Paul Kellogg Veazey on 24 February 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She worked side by side with her husband at the family business, originally known as Abbey Rents, now known as Bill Veazey's Rehab and Home Care Equipment and Bill Veazey's Party Store. With her husband, she went to OU's football games for over 45 years and still enthusiastically followed the Sooners on TV until her death. She was present at the game when Notre Dame snapped OU's winning streak and still talks about it. She served on the YMCA Board of Directors in 1960-64.
Jane was a fine musician. She played various instruments in her high school band depending on which instrument the band director needed at the time; she played the piano; and she sang in church choirs through her 70's until her asthma related breathing problems finally forced her to quit. Jane and Bill were members of First Presbyterian Church where she was active as a volunteer in Sunday school, Circle and Choir. Later they moved their membership to Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in Choir, volunteered for S.P.A.R.K., was a member of Knit 'n Purl and was active in Sunday school.
She was an excellent hostess and a fantastic cook. She could take about anything and turn it into a gourmet meal. Her chocolate mousse was requested for every family celebration. However, while Bill loved this dinner, her children did not appreciate her liver and onions.
Jane loved to do needlework of all kinds. She made dresses for her four daughters; made quilts for the family beds; sewed tablecloths for the business; and knitted thousands of yards of sweaters, scarves, hats, afghans, shawls, baby hats, etc. for family and friends. She joined the knitting group at Westminster Presbyterian and knitted prayer shawls as well as baby caps and booties for newborns.
Jane also loved gardening as a Master Gardner. She had a knack for planning colors, plants, and furnishings to make her yard a welcome oasis.
Bill and Jane took many trips. Among her favorite were an Alaskan cruise on which Bill and Jane were joined by her cousin Mickey, a cruise of the Danube, a driving trip of the British Isles and Normandy, France for their 50th wedding anniversary, and a safari trip to Africa sponsored by the Oklahoma City Zoo. They went to Long Boat Key, Florida for 25 years. They would plan quarterly trips to Santa Fe where she reveled in the history, art and landscape of the area.
