James was born on March 20, 1930 to Bessie Rankin Jones and Andrew (Ben) Earl Coffey in Roosevelt, Oklahoma. James graduated from Sedan High School in 1948. In 1947, James met Nell at Sedan High School. They were married April 20, 1951 and went on to have six children, James and Susan Coffey of Cape Coral, FL, Denise Coffey of Oklahoma City, OK, Jon and Cathy Coffey of Claremore, OK, Joe and Brenda Coffey of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeanne Miller of Tulsa, OK and Jeff and Christy Coffey of Warr Acres, OK.
In 2002, James retired from Athenian Marble and spent his time writing music for Christian artists, playing his guitar and loving his family.
James was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters, Opal Coffey and Betty White, brother Pat Coffey, daughter-in-law, Susan O. Coffey, great-grandson, Dillion Ritter, and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his loving wife, 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Monday, April 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Services will be at Woodson Park Church of the Nazarene where he attended for 35 years, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City, OK. Lunch will be served at the church and all are welcome.
