Howard was born on August 25, 1954 in Warren, Ohio to Kenneth and Shirley Carey. He was raised in Ohio, graduating from LaBrae High School. In 1976, Howard moved to OKC, where he remained until his passing. In 1986 he met Susie Emery through a local dating service. Howard and Susie quickly fell in love and were married the following year. Howard had two children from a previous marriage (Kristyn and Nick), as did Susie (Josh and Larry), together they had a son Colton.
Howard had a distinguished 31 year career as an IT Tech working most recently for the FAA, a position he enjoyed for over 15 years. Howard enjoyed doing stand-up comedy. He had a witty, dry sense of humor that lifted his friend’s spirits. His sarcasm was known worldwide… you guys know what we mean.
When he was not working on computers, Howard enjoyed guitars, motorcycles and his cars. He was a proud Ohio State Buckeye fan and he was looking forward to watching them beat the Sooners….. AGAIN! Howard was a talented craftsman who turned his backyard into a paradise known as the “Carey Resort” complete with a pool, tiki bar, outdoor kitchen and shaded Pergonia for Susie. He loved to show his oasis to his friends and always welcomed any excuse to throw a party and entertain friends. Those who knew Howard best know that his true love was his family. He always prioritized time with them and was never happier than when he was surrounded by his kids, siblings, and grandkids.
Howard Carey was a loving husband, a caring father, a protective brother, a proud grandpa, and a trusted friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his wife and best-friend Susie. Five children: Kristyn Moore and husband Greg of San Luis Obispo, CA, Nick Carey and Wife Amber of Ada, OK, Colton Carey and wife Melissa of Moore, OK, Josh Mahsetky and wife Stacey of Seattle, WA and Larry Mahsetky of OKC: eight grandchildren: Eli, Mary Jane, Selene, Scarlette, Caden, Olivia, Liam, and Jorja: three siblings: Jeff Carey and wife Lorraine, Pat Carey and wife Robin, and Beverly Kappas and husband Dean. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
