Helen June Weaver passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the age of 85. Helen was born on June 12, 1933, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Don & Mary Obermier. Helen & Nelson were married November 1952, and they spent 46 wonderful years together. They went on to start their family with the birth of their son Larry Weaver, and daughters Gail Thompson and Brenda Sachs.
Helen and Nelson had an intense passion for travel and adventure, which they shared with their family and friends. Some of the fondest memories they had were the multiple vacations to the family cabin in Red River, New Mexico where the entire family enjoyed quality time together. Every Christmas holiday was spent scouring the surrounding forest on snowmobiles to find the perfect tree – which almost never fit – or seeing who could climb highest up the mountain through the deep powdered snow. In between decorating the tree and finding every steep mountain road they could climb, you would find them skiing or sledding down the hills found scattered throughout the Red River valley.
Aside from traveling, Helen was truly one of a kind. Her hobbies and interests were all over the colorful spectrum. She enjoyed gardening, watching figure skating, making porcelain dolls, quilting, and to no one’s surprise, she was even quite the artist! She accomplished all this while also running her own successful hair styling business. When she wasn’t traveling or busy with her hobbies, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the other loves of her life. She truly cherished watching them grow and spending quality time with them.
Helen was proceeded by husband, Nelson Weaver; daughter, Gail Thompson; and sister, Betty Hampton.
She is survived by her son, Larry Weaver; daughter, Brenda Sachs; son-in-law, Lothar Sachs; grandkids, Vince Thompson, Madison & Chelsea Sachs, Ryan Lujan & spouse Nikki, Kim Peffer & spouse, Clayton; and great grandkids, Cierra Thompson, Destry Lujan, Berkley & Tayte Peffer.
Visitation will be on May 9, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in honor of Helen on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162 with a burial to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
