Helen Thompson Danner, born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma in 1923, died April 24, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Members of her family are her late husband, Clifton L.; daughter, Shelly Abner and husband Larry of Kirkland, WA; son Kevin and wife Valerie and grandson, Blake Danner, of Plano, Texas.
Helen graduated from Fairfax High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She grew up studying piano which provided many musical avenues throughout her life, having been organist in Osage Baptist Church, Fairfax, OK during her high school years, and later at First Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church, and Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
She was an active member for many years of Sigma Alpha Iota, an International Music Fraternity, having become a member at OBU. Helen was instrumental in introducing and teaching the art of handbell ringing in churches in Oklahoma City and other churches in our state. In 1988 the Master Ringers Handbell Choir from Quail Springs Baptist Church participated in a Christian crusade in Coatbridge, Scotland for eight days. As Music Associate at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City for twenty-two years, she earlier traveled to South America and Europe with youth choirs, serving as accompanist and handbell director.
Visitation will be held for Helen on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family services will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 North May Ave., Oklahoma City at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2013 with Dr. Hance Dilbeck presiding. Memorials may be made to the building fund at Quail Springs Baptist Church.
