Gwen Marie Hampton, 84, of Oklahoma City passed away peacefully on January 23 2017. She was born August 31, 1932to the late Harold and Pauline Uhl in Yankton, South Dakota. After high school she joined the Air Force and her first duty station was Lowry, AFB Denver, CO. Her job was a weather observer. It was here where she met and married Paul Hampton, a Air Force air traffic controller. They were married May 14, 1952.
Gwen separated from the Air Force and became a homemaker while Paul continued his Air Force career. She raised four kids - two at a time. She had teenagers and then twins. She worked that full-time job until her twins were school-age. She went to work for a grocery store as an office manager.
The Hampton’s bought property at Lake Eufaula and spent every weekend they could waterskiing and fishing for crappie.
Paul preceded her in death in 1989. Gwen retired a few years later and delved more into reading her romance and western novels. She dabbled in crafts but found her passion in quilting. She made so many beautiful quilts for family and friends. Many signed “With Love And Cat Hair”. As part of the Mid-Del Stichin' Sisters, she made and donated “comfort quilts” to local fire and police stations. Her guild also made pillows for heart patients at St Anthony Hospital. Gwen was very proud to be reconfirmed in the Catholic Church in 2003 and a member of St Philip Neri Catholic Church.
Gwen is survived by her four children; Mike Hampton of OKC, Terry Angell-Boyd of Del City, Laurie Austin of OKC and Linda McCreary, husband Donald of Del City. Gwen has two grandsons; Jason Angell, wife Stacia of Lancaster, KY and Dustin Angell, wife Erin, of Stillwater, OK. She has three great-grandchildren; Trenton, Kaylee and Mason. She has also has family in Iowa, her cousin, Carol Mohrhauser and cousin Sheila Kennally in Texas. She has one brother, Donald Uhl and his wife Donna in Sioux City, Iowa.
