Gracie Faye Johnston, 89, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away on June 30, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service and a service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, July 6th at 2pm at Southern Hills Baptist Church in S. OKC. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Public visitation will be held on Thursday from 12-8pm at the funeral home located at 7720 S. Penn Ave. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8pm Thursday evening.
Gracie Faye Cannedy was born on Dec 7, 1928 in Gracemont, OK to John and Pearl (Shook) Cannedy. She was raised in Spring Creek, OK and graduated from Verden High School. Following high school, Gracie worked as telephone operator in Chickasha, OK. In September of 1947 she married Walter “Buddy” Johnston and they raised 4 children together. In the early 1950’s the family relocated to OKC. In the mid 1960’s she began a career as a machine operator for Western Electric which became AT&T and eventually Lucent Technology. She retired from Lucent in the early 1990’s.
Gracie Johnston was a selfless and generous woman who enjoyed cooking and gardening. Everyone who knew her was aware that her two priorities were her faith and her family. She was a longtime member of Southern Hills Baptist Church and she enjoyed the many relationships she made at church. Gracie cherished her time with her family. She was the glue that held her family together and she enjoyed being with her family, especially at one of the many wonderful Sunday dinners that they shared. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her kids and grandkids.
Gracie Johnston was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a caring sister, and a trusted friend who will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Cleatus Cannedy, and a daughter Charlotte Carl.
She is survived by her children: Terry Johnston and wife Janet, LaDonna Morton and husband David, and Ranita Taylor. Six grandchildren: Sean Carl, Shane Hamby and wife Lorraine, Casey Johnston and wife Caroline, Ashley McCaslin and husband Zach, Cortney Miller and husband Sky, Whitney Henderson and husband Boone. She is also survived by three siblings: Jerrold Cannedy and wife Sandy, Johnnie Cannedy and wife Bettie, and Ella Ridle; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members and friends.
