Gladys Voss was born June 12, 1912 and passed away February 15, 2013 at Jefferson’s Garden Assisted Living, where she received loving care for nine years. She was born on a farm west of Edmond to George and Beatrice Davis and was raised during the Great Depression; a member of the greatest generation.
She was a graduate of Britton High School and Oklahoma City University with a BS degree in Education.
She taught primary grades at Millwood School for 21 years and was remembered by her students as the best teacher they ever had.
In 1943, she married the love of her life, Donald Voss. They enjoyed an idyllic togetherness for 57 years.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; sisters Thelma Williamson, Sarah Baze, and Viva McGrew; nieces Patsy Davis, and Connie Dunn; and nephew Michael Davis.
She is survived by a brother Noah Davis; nephews Robert McGrew, Jerry Williamson, James and Charles Davis, Curtis and Joe Voss, and James Butts; nieces Judy Reed, Sarah Novak, Jennifer Yarbrough, Marian Bates, Dr. Barbara Voss-Alvarez, Judy Telford, and Martha Critchfield; a sister-in-law Mary Clough; and other relatives and friends. She was a long-time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she was a volunteer for many years.
Her life was like a rainbow emanating beauty, promise, and hope and at the end “a pot of gold”, but what? ‘Tis HEAVEN!
A visitation will be held for Gladys on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 9:00am to 8:00pm; family will greet guests from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00am at the Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Chapel with a reception following the interment.
