George Hans Degn, 79, of Lowell, Arkansas, passed away, Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home.
George was born March 19, 1936, in Trousdale, Oklahoma to George Oscar and Flora Belle (Peeler) Degn. He graduated from Southeast High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. After returning from service, he attended Central State University in Edmond, Ok and obtained a business degree.
George started his family in the late 1950s in Oklahoma City. He worked in transportation for Santa Fe Rail-Road for many years. While working for Santa Fe, George and his family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma; Illinois; and then back to Oklahoma City. George moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in the early 1970s where he started a billboard business, Great Degn Outdoor Advertising, where he worked until he passed away.
George is survived by his son, Mark Degn and wife Joanne, three daughters, Teresa West and husband Lance, Denise Williams, Paula Cook and husband Mickey, a sister Grace Brawdy and husband Howard, and two brothers Gail Degn and wife Lil, Melvin Degn and wife Kaye, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George O. and Flora Belle, three sisters Eileen, Lavern, and Elaine, son-in-law Jimmy Williams and grandson Butch Cook.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday August 29, 2015, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, Arkansas, 72762.
