Freda May Hallman, 84, of Oklahoma City passed from this life on April 10, 2020 with her loving family by her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service in Oklahoma City. A private celebration of life will take place later this week.
Freda May Burchett was born on August 19, 1935 in OKC to James and Mabel Clara (Duncan) Burchett. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School. In the early 1950’s, she was set up on a blind date with her friend’s brother, CJ Hallman. It was love at first sight for CJ. A short time later they were married. Soon after, CJ was drafted into the Korean Conflict and Freda spent two years taking care of her family while CJ served his country. Freda and CJ had four wonderful children: Joyce, Linda, Nancy, and Larry.
Freda spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a selfless woman with endless energy who enjoyed volunteering her time at Goodwill, Ronald McDonald House, and putting together meals for senior citizens. She was strong-willed, independent, and she accomplished whatever she set her mind to. Freda was a creative and artistic painter and she enjoyed decorating her home with antiques. She loved to travel and she spent several wonderful years vacationing with CJ at their property at the Lake of the Arbuckles. Freda loved to be with her kids and grandkids and she always cherished the times they spent traveling and camping with their family friends.
Freda loved her life, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her best friend of nearly seven decades, her beloved soulmate CJ. They made so many special memories together and truly loved each other as much on the day of Freda’s passing as they did the day they were married. Freda Hallman was a loving wife, a caring mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother, and a loyal friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, and a son-in-law Don Hicks. She is survived by her husband CJ Hallman; four children: Joyce Hicks, Linda LaFevers and husband Jim, Nancy Bates and husband Mark, and Larry Hallman; three grandchildren: Ryan Bates, Heather Leonard and husband Casey, and Timothy Hallman and wife Ashley; two great grandchildren: Sofia Hallman and Elliot Leonard; a sister Phyllis Hinkle and husband Melvin; numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
