Floyd Wayne McCalip, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, went to be with Jesus on September 19, 2019, at the age of 74 year, 10 months, and 305 days. He is known by his siblings as “Elvis”, by his family as “Honey” and “Daddy”, and by many as “Papa Floyd”. He was born to Homer Ellis McCalip and Ollie Ward McCalip. Floyd was one of nine children. If you asked him which place in the family was his, he would say, “Floyd the Eighth, I am”. Floyd’s parents were traveling evangelists when he was growing up.
In the eighth Grade, he moved in with his Sister Lovie and Husband James Drain of Lexington, where he graduated from Noble High School in 1962. He continued to further his education at a business school where he learned the trade of being an Accountant, Bookkeeper, and Office Manager as he liked to refer to his occupation as a “bean counter”.
Floyd was married to Janice Lee Willoughby on December 20, 1963 at Northside Assembly of God in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They were married 55 years, 9 months and 19 days.
On May 13, 1965, Jana Irene McCalip was born making him a Daddy for the first time. On May 20, 1967, Rhonda Elaine McCalip Johnson was born and he was once again a Daddy for the second time. One thing for sure, Floyd loved and took care of his 3 “girls”.
Floyd worked in many positions and for many companies over the years as an office manager, bookkeeper, and financial accountant. In his younger years he even sold beauty supplies. He kept that connection throughout his life, always getting wholesale beauty supplies for his girls. While working as an Accountant for Bond Bread Company as an Office Manager, he was transferred to Billings Montana to work for a sister company Eddy’s Bread in 1975 where he lived for three years before returning home to Oklahoma City in 1978 with his family.
Floyd was a family man who loved God first, his Family 2nd and the church 3rd. He was very faithful to make sure his family was in church every week. He loved Jesus and made sure that every night he knelt and prayed for all his family by name. He spent many sleepless nights praying for friends and family members even until his last day of being able to talk. After he was unable to be understood there were times we thought he was praying.
He enjoyed tinkering with wood, making picture frames, wood baskets, and loved hanging wallpaper in any room he could, especially the bathroom. His favorite wallpaper was anything with lots of character (busy) including flocked print. He loved decorating things and helping his “girls” providing anything they wanted if it was at all possible. He loved Jesus, his family, his church and his friends. He also loved the OU Sooners, people, music, playing dominoes (Moon), getting together playing games with friends, spending Friday night with his “girls” having dinner and playing games, which he has done over the past 5 years religiously. He loved fellowship, food, and especially desserts first please with every meal.
Floyd is survived by his bride, his sweetheart Janice McCalip of the home, 2 daughters Jana McCalip and Rhonda Johnson of Oklahoma City, foster grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Wyatt, and Khloe Anderson of Pryor, a brother James McCalip of Tecumseh, Ok, 2 sisters Lovie Drain of Lexington, and Pat Mize of Norman, Brother-in-law Tom Willoughby who lives in the home, sister-in-law Margie Sherry and husband Gene, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Ollie McCalip, 2 brothers - LeRoy and Kenny McCalip, 3 sisters - Ruby Mize, Geraldine Parnell, and Leota Powers, and many more Aunts, Uncles, Cousin, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all those who have stood with us over the past few years as Floyds health declined. Especially those who cared for him in the home over the past year who have become part of our extended family. We would like to give special thanks to Amanda Green, Mrs. Gladys Garcia and to Noella Loranzo for taking good care of our family. The staff at Humanity Hospice has done an outstanding job of assisting our family over the past 9 months in walking through the transitions that has led us to be here today. Thanks to all of you for being there with us and providing excellent care for Floyd.
Today Heaven has a new greeter named Floyd McCalip, Honey, Daddy, Little Brother, Papa Floyd, Mr. Floyd or whatever name you called him.
Welcome to Heaven Daddy, you are finally home.
