Fern Michelle Smith, 69, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on July 23, 2023, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, compassion, and dedication.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 23, 1954, Fern’s nurturing spirit would guide her through life. She married her beloved husband, Phillip Lee Smith, on October 19, 1997, and together they built a loving family.
With a natural ability to care for others, Fern pursued her passion and became a Licensed Practical Nurse after receiving her LPN from Francis Tuttle. Her career at Mercy Yukon Clinic was a testament to her commitment to healing and comfort.
A lover of all things beautiful, Fern was an active member of the Oklahoma Humane Society. Her hobbies were a reflection of her joyous spirit, from the tranquility found in her garden to the delight in cooking, reading, and playing with her cherished grandchildren.
Fern’s memory will forever be honored by her children and their spouses, David & Amber Bahrenburg; Michael & Allison Bahrenburg; Stepson and daughter-in-law, Kyle & Margo Smith; Stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kaylyn & Deren Flesher. Her grandchildren, Sophia & Clara Bahrenburg, Anderson Bahrenburg, Charlie Smith, Elias & Vivienne Flesher will lovingly remember their grandmother’s embrace. Her siblings, Bonnie Sannito & Family and Susan Scherr & Family, will continue to celebrate her loving presence.
Fern’s impact will echo through the lives she touched, whether through her professional care, her loving family, or the joy she found in her hobbies. Her big heart, gentle smile, and unwavering love will remain an inspiration for all who knew her. Her passion for animals, her creativity in the garden, and her love for her family will never be forgotten.
A service to honor and remember Fern’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fern’s name may be made to the Oklahoma Humane Society. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved her.
Phillip Lee's Obituary:
Phillip Lee Smith, 73, of Edmond, Oklahoma, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and serviceman, passed away on July 23, 2023.
Born on November 30, 1949, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Phillip’s journey through life was marked by unwavering commitment and love. On July 17, 1976, he married M. Vivienne Pinheiro, and together they became involved in the Catholic Church and cherished their time at the lake. Tragically, Vivienne preceded him in death in an automobile accident on March 23, 1996.
Phillip found love again and married Fern Michelle Jackson on October 19, 1997. Their union brought together a loving family and allowed Phillip’s joy for life to blossom once more.
Phillip’s dedication to his country was exemplified through his service in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Petty Officer 1st Class and 21 years in the Oklahoma Air National Guard as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Following his military service, Phillip embarked on a rewarding career in the waste industry, where he became a well-loved and respected figure working for Waste Management, IESI, and Progressive Waste Solutions. His knowledge and dedication were known throughout the industry.
Phillip’s zest for life extended beyond his professional pursuits. He found joy in carpentry and fishing. Together with Fern, they enjoyed tending to their vegetable garden, creating delightful meals in the kitchen, entertaining family at gatherings and most importantly, spending quality time with their grandchildren.
His memory will be cherished by his children and their spouses, Kyle & Margo Smith; Kaylyn & Deren Flesher; Cary Smith & Family; Stepsons and daughters-in-law, David & Amber Bahrenburg; Michael & Allison Bahrenburg. His grandchildren, Sophia & Clara Bahrenburg, Anderson Bahrenburg, Charlie Smith, Elias & Vivienne Flesher, and his brother, Christopher Smith & Family, will treasure the memories they shared.
A memorial service to celebrate Phillip’s remarkable life will be announced in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, reflecting Phillip’s lifelong commitment to service. His laughter, wisdom, and loving nature will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
