Funeral services will be held at Quail Springs Baptist Church on Friday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Hance Dilbeck and Rev. Roy Moody presiding. Interment will be in Spring Creek Cemetery entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Evelyn Rankin was born October 24, 1931 to Harles and Addie Rhodes in Waurika, Oklahoma. She was raised and attended school in McAlester, Oklahoma, where she graduated from McAlester High School in 1948. In her early adult life, she attended Eastern A & M College and was one of the Homecoming Queens in 1949. She attended Oklahoma University in 1950. Evelyn also worked for a brief time at the Pentagon in Washington DC.
She met and married the love of her life, John Rankin on June 16, 1951. Evelyn was a treasured wife, a devoted mother to 3 sons, an adoring grandmother to 5 grandchildren, a cherished sister, aunt, and a friend to all. She was a devout member of Quail Springs Baptist Church, formerly Nichols Hills Baptist Church, for nearly 60 years. Attending and helping out at church was a big part of her life. It was evidenced by her spirit that she was a Godly person. She was tender, wise, patient, forgiving, and loyal to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harles and Addie Rhodes. Also preceded in death were 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Herman L. Rhodes, Thurman L. Rhodes, Glynn D. Rhodes, Lorene V. Woods, Lavern F. Rhodes, 3 brothers-in-law; Oscar Spinks, John Dickey, and Jim Woods.
Survivors include her husband, John Rankin; 3 sons, Dave Rankin and wife Stephanie of Yukon, Okla., Steve Rankin and Valerie Hartman of Oklahoma City, Okla., and John Rankin and Monyda Cheach of Oklahoma City, Okla. Survivors also include 2 sisters and 2 brothers; Dorothy B. Spinks of Edmond, Okla., Margarete Dickey of Oklahoma City, Okla., Merl F. Rhodes and wife Linda of McAlester, Harry Lynn Rhodes and wife Claudette of Sand Springs, Okla., 2 sisters-in-law Nancy Rhodes of Dallas, TX, and Billie Sue Rhodes of Oklahoma City, Okla. Other survivors include 5 grandchildren; Chase Riant Rankin and wife Alicia of Oklahoma City, Cari Marie Holmes and husband Aric of Norman, Okla., Logan Tyler Rankin of Yukon, Okla., Brittnee Nicole Rankin and fiancé Ryan Tomlin of Yukon, Okla., Bob Spinks of Oklahoma City, Okla., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dave Rankin, Steve Rankin, John Rankin, Joe Rhodes, Logan Rankin, and Blake Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bradley and Cap Grantham.
Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; the family will receive friends from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
