When people remember Evelyn Murray, they will speak of her endless faith. They will see Jesus when they remember her 93 years here on Earth. She, indeed, was a good and faithful servant who only wanted to know from everyone, “Do you know Jesus?”
Evelyn Kusler was born on April 20, 1930, in Morganville, Kansas, to John Kusler and Helen Eilers Kusler. She was one of 12 children. Her family moved from Kansas to Oklahoma, where she met Robert Daniel Murray. The two were married on September 2, 1950, in Oklahoma City. Together they had four children, Robert, Kenny, Donna, and Becky. Her children were very precious to her. They now remember her constant love of Jesus, and they’ll cherish the legacy of faith that she leaves behind.
When her husband became pastor of Sharon Baptist Church in OKC, she was an integral part of his ministry. Together, they served the church and visited the surrounding neighborhood, and held church services at several nursing homes. She had a beautiful singing voice and often would sing specials at church and lead singing at the nursing homes.
She took the message of Matthew 28:19 to heart, spreading the Gospel of Jesus to whomever she came into contact with and she would never let anyone leave without a neck hug.
She is preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, and her husband of 62 years, the Rev. Robert Murray. She is survived by her sister, Geraldine; her children, Robert L Murray, Kenny Murray (Rita), Donna Morgan (David), and Becky Hopkins (Johnny); five grandchildren, Johnny Hopkins Jr, Stacie Morgan-Shephard, Jennifer Hopkins-Morrison, Felicia Murray, and Kimberly Morgan-Osceola; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Trent, Ashley, Skyler, Katelyn, MaKayla, Noah, Hannah, Tenley, Clint, Clay, Leo Jr, and Kendrick; great-great-grandchildren, Dawson, Violet, Elaine, Daniel, Leia, and Emersyn.
Most of Evelyn’s favorite songs to sing were about Heaven because this world was not her home. She was only passing through, and her treasures are now laid up in that mansion just over the hilltop. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is home now.
“How beautiful Heaven must be. Sweet home of the happy and free. Fair haven of rest for the weary. How beautiful Heaven must be.”
