Evelyn Mae Devol, age 85, died peacefully on September 19, 2015 at The Hospice House on North Memorial Road, after suffering a stroke. Evelyn was born June 29, 1930 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James K VanArsdale and Clara M Baker VanArsdale formerly of Sarasota, Florida.
Evelyn enjoyed and was first and foremost a mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved being a student pilot where she logged a total of 10 hours and soloed after only eight hours. She was a Dale Carnegie Instructor for Women for five years. Finally, an LDS Temple worker. Her favorite hobbies were being an amateur florist and artist. Evelyn’s education consisted of two years at Transylvania University, Lexington, KY and 85 years’ experience in patience and long suffering. She said “finally learned: Obedience to God, brings blessings”.
Evelyn came to “the chosen land” of Oklahoma City, OK in 1972. She met Charles, her prince charming in April 1976. They were married October 6, 1976. Charles and Evelyn were sealed in the Dallas TX Temple on September 12, 1987 for time and all eternity.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Charles R. Devol; sister Mary Preston VanArsdale; son James and his wife Cynthia Utterback; daughter Deborah and her husband Thomas Hanselman; stepson Roy and his wife Joyce Devol; stepdaughter Linda and her husband Clifton Sewell; stepdaughter Judy and her husband Steve Adams; and stepson Kevin and his wife Valerie Devol; three nieces; 24 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy VanArsdale, stepson David Devol and niece Lynn Mariucci.
