. Elsie Mae Smith has left this earth to join George, her husband of 42 years. She was born in Pueblo, CO and graduated from Centennial High School. She worked as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools before getting married and moving to Oklahoma. She retired from Core Laboratories in Oklahoma City where she was an Administrative Assistant. She enjoyed weekly “Hokey Pokey Breakfast Club” gatherings with many friends.
After Pennsylvania Avenue Christian Church closed, she enjoyed continuing the CWF group. She was a member of Memorial Christian Church in Oklahoma City where she was especially fond of her time spent helping kids with sewing projects.
She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a perpetual member of Fidelis Eastern Star Chapter #426. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Nareme Eastern Star Chapter #373 and served as secretary for 29 years. She also served as Mother Advisor of Fair Assembly Rainbow Girls.
In 2007, she moved to Southern Plaza where she enjoyed all of the people and made many lasting friendships. Playing Rummikub after dinner with friends was a special part of each day. She moved to Tulsa in 2011 to be closer to family and she lived with her oldest granddaughter, Melissa, until her recent illness. She always enjoyed family gatherings and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.
Even through the tough times she always had a smile. She never got angry or had a bad word to say about anyone. She instantly connected with most everyone she met and had many close friends. She was always ready to give or receive a hug.
She is survived by her son, John Smith and wife Judy of Wanette; daughter, LaVon Ruedy and husband Bill of Tulsa; grandchildren, Shawn Smith and wife Lucinda of Little Axe, Zachary Smith of Wanette, Ethan Smith and wife Hotona of Wanette, Melissa Ruedy of Tulsa, Beverly Ruedy of Stillwater, Teresa Pankratz and husband Daniel of Stillwater; six great-grandchildren; brother, Vern Watkins and wife LaVerne of San Benito, TX; one niece and three nephews; and many friends.
Elsie’s family would like to thank Carter Healthcare & Hospice of Tulsa for their support and the wonderful care Elsie received.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elsie’s memory to Memorial Christian Church 1915 N. Meridian Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73107.
