Elsie Rubenstein (Nana), age 100, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away June 22, 2015. She 'was born June 18,1915, in New York City, NY, to Hyman and Manya (Dubron) Whiteman. She resided most of her life in Oklahoma City, having moved from New York on Thanksgiving Day 1949.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Solomon "Boompa" of 56 years married June 20, 1937, her sister Pearl Schiff of Tucson, AZ, two brothers Irving Whiteman and Morris Whiteman of New York City, NY, her older daughter Judith Arbeltman of Bat Yam, Israel; and great granddaughter Sofia Hirschfeld of B'Nei Brak, Israel. She is survived by her children, Helena Sorenson and husband John of Edmond; Manya Paru of Sarasota, FL; Michael Rubenstein and wife Peggy of Edmond; grandchildren Leah Hirschfeld and husband Moshe of B'Nei Brak, Israel; Israel Amltal and wife Tova of Petach Tikveh, Israel; Dina Ben Shitrit and husband Shlomo of Ashdod, Israel; Jennifer Sarver of San Mateo, CA; Marc Sorenson and wife Tina of Mustang, OK; Aliza Katz and husband Ariel of Hollywood, FL; Jonathan Rubenstein, Abby Rubenstein, Megan Rubenstein of Edmond, OK; Josleaun Marie Sorenson and Julllana Airyn Sorenson of Mustang, OK; Joshua Dannenberg and wife Andrea of Brooklyn, NY; Michael Wasserberger of Baltimore, MD; Joseph Horak of Chicago, IL; Meirav Horak of Denver, CO; Elisheva Horak of Hollywood, FL; 19 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She enjoyed knitting and designed numerous winter outfits worn by her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at OU Science Center and Baptist Hospital for numerous years, being a member of Emanuel Synagogue Sisterhood, League of Women Voters, National Council of Jewish Women, and a life-time member of Hadassah. Elsie had been a long-time member of Emanuel Synagogue since moving to Oklahoma City in 1949.
Elsie loved the company of her children and grandchildren, and thrived when surrounded by family. The second highlight of her life was when dancing with her husband to the music of Glenn Miller and others from the 40's and 50's,dancing the night away at Fuzzy's, Sportsman's Club, Lakeview Country, Club, (all of Oklahoma City), and the Moose Lodge (Yukon, OK). Numerous friends called Nana and Boompa the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of Oklahoma City.
She will be missed by those who knew her and dearly loved by her family.
