Elma was born on March 1, 1938 in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Julius Phillip Stine and Wilma Rozella (Wehmuller) Stine. Elma went to Sunnyside School, El Reno and Oklahoma Bible Academy in Meno, Oklahoma, before attending Comptometer school.
She married Robert G. Schmidt on September 2, 1956 in Geary, Oklahoma and they spent 64 incredible years together. During their marriage, they had three wonderful children: Ronnie, Dwight and Eileen.
Elma kept the books at Norma Jolley and Meadow Gold. She stayed busy in the Piedmont schools and community where she helped in the cafeteria and even drove a bus at Piedmont School. Elma retired after 36 loyal years of service working as a rural mail carrier for the Piedmont and Yukon post offices. She was a member of the Rural Oklahoma Letter Carriers Association.
Not one to sit idle, she went on to work at the Canadian County (where she spent her whole life) Election Board. She was also President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Piedmont Fire Department.
An avid quilter, Elma made some of the most beautiful quilts and was a member of “Stitching Sisters” and made quilts for Quilts of Valor. Elma mentored many young through her leadership in the 4-H and FFA clubs of Piedmont.
Elma’s proudest moments were becoming a mother to her sweet children, her iris collection, and being a chaperone on the Piedmont High School Band trip to Austria. During her free time, Elma enjoyed bowling and cheering on her Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.
Elma is preceded in death by her father Julius Phillip Stine, her mother Wilma Rozella (Wehmuller) Stine, her brother Edgar Stine, sisters Alta Marie Stine, Linda Eakins, son-in-law Mike Bryan, and great grandson Brayden Schmidt.
