

Edwin Henry “Ed” Koop was born in Enid, Oklahoma on August 29, 1930 to Jacob and Lydia Koop. He attended Enid schools and graduated from Enid High School in 1948. After graduation he attended Oklahoma A&M College (now OSU). He was active in the Baptist Student Union where he met his future wife Carol and graduated from OSU in 1952.
After college he served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Ed and Carol married December 22, 1951 and made their home in Oklahoma City for more than 60 years. He was an accountant for Kerr McGee for 28 years. After retirement Ed and Carol traveled to Europe and the United Kingdom. Ed enjoyed playing golf with friends saying “it was good exercise!” He was a faithful member of The Baptist Temple for over 60 years where he was a deacon and sang in the choir. Ed volunteered over 5,000 hours at Integris Baptist Hospital and served as President of the auxiliary.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 62 years; son Alan and his wife Maki, grandchildren Jason and Hana of Powder Springs, GA; daughter Kim of Oklahoma City; sister Luella Burtz and husband Bill of Marietta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Integris Cancer Institute, Dr. Mandanas, nurse Barbara, and the staff in the Infusion unit for their compassion and dedication. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29th at 10:00 am at The Baptist Temple Church, NW 30th and Villa, Oklahoma City.
