On Friday, July 9, 2021, E. Jane Amme, passed away peacefully in Oklahoma City, OK. Jane shared her birthday with America when she was born on July 4, 1936 in Ames, IA to Francis L. Huntley and Emma M. (Miller) Huntley.
Jane attended the University of Iowa and was the Class of 1957 where she graduated and earned her degree as a dental hygienist. She started her dental career in Jacksonville, FL. After earning her bachelor’s, Jane became a lifelong scholar. Her outstanding achievements include: the College of Dentistry Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, twelve teaching awards from her students, College of Dentistry’s Dean’s Service Award in 1998, the Regent’s Award for Superior Teaching in 1999. Following her retirement in 2007, she was awarded the University of Oklahoma Regent’s title of Professor Emeritus. She was a clinical Associate Professor of periodontics and dental hygiene, spending forty-one fantastic years as a professor teaching at the University of Oklahoma.
Jane met John in Ames, Iowa in the early 1950s. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable, they were married for nearly fifty-one blissful years. Their family grew to five with the birth of their children: Greg, Dan, and Mark. From then on, Jane grew used to being the only lady in a house full of gentleman until the addition of her sweet great granddaughter, Quinn, came along.
When Jane wasn’t hard at work at the OU dental school, you could find her gardening, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, or of course, cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos. Jane was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and educator. Her legacy will live on not only as a role model to her family, but to the dental students whose lives she impacted as an educator.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Emma Huntley; her husband, John Amme; and her brother, Jim Huntley. She is survived by her sons, Greg Amme of Dallas, TX, Dan Amme of Oklahoma City, OK, and Mark Amme of Oklahoma City, OK. Jane also leaves behind three grandsons, Corey Amme and wife, Kristin of Oklahoma City, OK, Matthew Amme, and John Amme, and great granddaughter Quinn Amme.
Visitation for Jane will be on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. The funeral service in honor of Jane is scheduled for Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
