Dorothy Ann Thomas

Dorothy Ann (Schaff) Thomas was born on March 5, 1935, in Worland Wyoming to parents Carl Schaff and Lola Miller. Dorothy passed from this life on March 6th, 2023, one day after her 88th birthday. Raised in Worland, she graduated from Washakie County High School in 1953. Later that year she married Raymond Thomas and had one son in 1954 and another son in 1955. In 1955 she and Raymond and the two boys moved to Norman, OK so Raymond could study Petroleum Engineering at OU. At his graduation in 1960 she had 3 little boys, and the cross-country adventure began to various oilfield towns in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, North Dakota, and California. In 1971 with all four children in school, Dorothy went to nursing school and obtained her LPN degree. She would work with doctors in North Dakota, California, and Texas until her and Raymond’s retirement and move back to OKC in 1990.

Over her long life, she loved her large family, cooking, knitting, needlepoint, and cross stitch. She was active to the end with Presbyterian Women, and Mobile Meals at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy was married to Raymond for 47 years until his passing in 2000.

She is predeceased by her parents, and brother Donnie Schaff. She is survived by stepbrother Michael Schaff and wife Diana of Atlanta, Georgia, sons Carl Thomas and wife Ann of OKC, Robert Thomas and wife Barbara of Lodi, California, Steven Thomas and wife Stacy of Ankeny, Iowa, and daughter Patricia Coley of OKC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Loretta Long and husband Johnney of Tulsa, and many nieces and nephews. She was a grandmother to 9, great grandmother to 6 and great-great grandmother to 1.

Dorothy’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens beginning at 10AM, where she will be buried next to her husband, mother, and brother.
