Dorothy Lee Smith, 87 of Oklahoma City passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Southwest Integris Hospital where she worked for over 30 years of her life. Dorothy was born on June 2, 1936 in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was raised in Idabel until she was placed into Wheelock Boarding School in Valiant, Oklahoma, where she obtained her High School diploma.
She was later married to Charles Rogers Smith Sr. and started a family in Oklahoma City. She was full blood Choctaw and was proud of that in every day of her life. She was proud and happy to work as a nurse’s aide at South Community Hospital, as she loved to help people. She would help anyone she could. She survived cancer along with many other tragedies and obstacles in her life. She loved to play bingo, dominoes, checkers, tennis, walking, and Coca- Cola. She was a strong loving Choctaw woman who will truly be missed and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Mary Jane Maytubbie, husband Charles Rogers Smith Sr., two sons Charles Rogers Smith Jr., and Robert Lynn Smith, Aunt Ida, Cousins Georgia, Ester, Virgie, and many other relations back home where she grew up.
She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Hargis and husband Elsia Hargis, (Son), grandson Chad Sullivan, granddaughter Angela DelRay Smith who has given her 3 great grandchildren, Daxton, Lakelyn, and Xavier, grandson Jason Ray Smith, Daughter in law Christine Smith, best friend and bingo partner Morsha, and new found friends Lupe Toledo, and her daughter Elliana who brought joy, laughter and many smiles at the end of her day.
