Dorothy Arizonaly Forbes, 61, of OKC passed from this life unexpectedly on July 27, 2020. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Service at 7720 S. Pennsylvania in OKC and a public visitation for Dorothy will be held Monday, August 3, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 4:00PM at the funeral home followed by a celebration of life starting at 4:00 PM.
Dorothy was born September 10, 1958 on Long Bay Cays, Andros in The Bahamas to Caroline (Johnson) Forbes and Ilford Forbes. She was raised in The Bahamas and attended the University of The Bahamas where she received her degree. She later relocated to the United States where she settled in OKC to be with her sisters. She attended Oklahoma City University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Dorothy dedicated her life to raising her three sons and was employed at the Target store at 5400 N. May in OKC for over 25 years. She began her career as a loader in the shipping and receiving department and worked her way up to the audit and receiving manager. She made many wonderful friends with her co-workers and the regular customers at her store. During her free time, Dorothy enjoyed watching General Hospital and One Life to Live, as well as crime shows and documentaries. She loved to dance while listening to her favorite musical artists: Tina Turner, Bob Marley, The Temptations, and Prince.
Dorothy was an independent and strong-willed firecracker. She was caring and opinionated. She had a tremendous knowledge base and relevant commonsense approach to sharing good advice with her family and friends. Family was always Dorothy’s top priority and she taught them the meaning and power of unconditional love. She spoke with her sisters on the phone every day, enjoying making them laugh and she loved to cook for her children. Stuffing, dumpling soup, and shrimp fried rice were her specialties. Dorothy always had something to say and she had several quotes that she was well-known for: “Jesus Christ fed the 5,000, not Dorothy Forbes,” “You better not leave here looking like some DoMeBaby” and “Don’t walk out of this house looking like Nebuchadnezzar’s bungie.” Dorothy was never happier than when she was surrounded by her kids, grandkids, and siblings.
Dorothy Forbes packed more great memories into her short 61 years than most people could pack into 100 years. She was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a caring sister, a loyal employee, and a trusted friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Caroline and Ilford Forbes and three siblings: Reginald, Kingsley, and Kirby. Dorothy is survived by her three sons: Antwine Criton Jr. and wife Jazmine,, Angetello Kadeem Criton , and Akweem Zane Criton; 7 siblings: Basil, Kermit, Eustan, Eudeana, Blossom, Ivan and Holland; two grandchildren: Khye Criton and Vanessa Hunter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to help cover Ms. Forbes’ final expenses.
Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at Advantageokc.com
