Dorothy Faye Proffer-Anderson went to heaven to be reunited with her husband in the presence of her LORD on Sunday, March 19th, 2017. She was preceded in death by Alfred C. Anderson on Saturday, January 21st, of this year. Born March 15, 1935, in Gainesville, Texas, to Grady and Vera Proffer, she grew up in Bokchito, Oklahoma, double-dating in high school with Andy and her sister Barbara and her soon-to-be husband, David Mize, and then graduating with Andy in 1953. After a year and a half of further courtship, they were married December 26, 1955, and immediately moved to Leadville, Colorado. Randall Clifton was born to them November 2, 1957, in Salida, Colorado, because of "stork level," the altitude that is safe for babies to be born. Roger Kelly was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, three and a half years later, and then they moved to Durant, OK, for the first time. Four years later, the family moved to Denton, TX, for six years where Mom worked at First Baptist Church as Music secretary. There are lots of sweet memories from there. Three years were spent in Athens, Georgia, where Mom had a tubal pregnancy and contracted Chronic Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion. It was several years before the doctors even knew to test for it. When she was diagnosed, she exclaimed, "See! I told you I was sick!" On the summer of 1973, the family moved back to Durant where she and Barbara had a women's clothing store called, White's Ready to Wear," for 22 years. After selling the store, Dorothy worked at First Baptist Church as receptionist/hostess for several years before retiring. In 2011, she and Dad sold their house and built onto Kelly and Robin's house in Oklahoma City, where they lived for five years. Mom has fought the symptoms of this disease for 45+ years. She went through experimental testing, which led to the breakthroughs that have been made today toward curing the disease. She finally succumbed to its ravages this past weekend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clarehouse Hospice House at www.clarehouse.org. Dorothy is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Kathy Anderson and Kelly and Robin Anderson, her sister , Barbara Mize and husband, David, 4 grandchildren Hillary Anderson, Hayley Sanders and her husband, TJ, Tyler Freeman and his wife Stacie, and Lauren Stoup and her husband Karig, 5 great grandchildren, Emma, Jake, Norah Rose, Graeson, Levi, and one on the way.
