Doris Marie Martin was born May 25, 1929 at Good Hope, Illinois to Earl Laverne Stroops and Rachel Isabella Stambaugh Stroops. She grew up in western Illinois and attended elementary school there. Unfortunately she had to leave school after sixth grade to help at home. She took great pride in her work especially her ironing.
On November 23, 1949 Doris married her one and only, Marvin Lee Martin. The couple resided in Aledo, Illinois. They had one child, Robert Lee Martin, born November 12, 1951. She was a devoted mother, instilling in her son the importance of education. In 1959, the family moved to Davenport, Iowa. Doris worked for many years as a grocery clerk and had many devoted customers who wouldn't allow anyone other than Doris to help them. Her passion was music. She enjoyed all kinds of music, but Elvis was her favorite. She also enjoyed looking for bargains at garage sales. After 65 years of marriage Marvin passed away in 2015. In 2017, due to declining health, Doris moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be near her son. She died July 5, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City after a brief illness. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all five brothers; Floyd, Clyde, Earl Jr., Bobbie and Donnie. She is survived by her son Robert Lee Martin and his wife Joyce, five grandchildren: Jared Martin, Sarah Martin, Rachel Fink, Rebecca Blakely, Naomi Moore, and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at Hahn Cook/Street & Draper, Oklahoma City on July 12, 2018 at 10am with burial on July 14, 2018 at Memorial Park in Davenport, Iowa.
