Doris Mae Bickel was born on April 16, 1931 in Muleshoe, TX to Bradley Henry Bickel and Hattie Mae (Moore) Bickel. She grew up and attended schools in Muleshoe. In 1951, she married her husband of 66 years, Bill Borum. They spent several years in Lubbock, TX where Doris gave birth to three of her four children: Kay, Karl, and Karen. While in Lubbock, Doris took a job working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
The family later relocated to OKC where she gave birth to her fourth child, Kim. Doris spent years raising her children before accepting a position as an x-ray technologist at Southwest Medical Center. She made many wonderful friends during her 15+ years at SMC before retiring in the mid 1990’s.
Doris was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life. She loved to travel and her favorite trip was a cruise to Alaska where she witnessed a hawk grab a fish from the sky. She also enjoyed playing bingo, bridge, and being a member of the Red Hat Society. Doris loved her family and she never missed a chance to spend time with them. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her kids and grandkids. Doris spent three years living at Southwest Mansions Independent Living and her kind heart, pleasant demeanor and sense of humor made it easy to make friends there. Doris spent the last six months of her life living with her daughter Kay. They made countless memories going to the casino, taking bus trips, and going to St. Louis to visit her son Karl.
