Donald E. Pope of Oklahoma City passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014. He was born February 12, 1928 to Olin and Anna Mary Margaret of Dayton, Ohio. Don was an only child and is survived by Linda Bartok, daughter; Thomas Pope, son; Susananne Reel, daughter; and Deborah Pope, daughter in law. Grandchildren are Christopher and Lauren Bartok, Alexander Pope and Niki and Hunter Pope. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae and two sons, Donald Jr. and Robert Charles. Don went to school in dayton, Ohio before joining the military in 1946 and serving all over the world, from Korea on the DMZ to Viet Nam, He also served at the Pentagon, where he was in charge of communications. He retired in 1969 after 23 years and began a second career in the insurance business, where he was a manager for Woodmen Accident and Life for the next 40 years until finally retiring in 2009. After Lula Mae passed in 2002, Don remarried Eda Sue, "Suzy" in 2005 and continued to live in Oklahoma City. They eventually moved to Epworth Villa Retirement Community, where Suzy is still a resident. Don enjoyed woodworking, building everything from rocking horses for his grandkids to birdhouses and many other things. He was also very involved in the church and community. Don's viewing will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway from 5-7pm Friday, September 19. Funeral Services will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church, 11600 N. Council Road, Oklahoma City, at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 20 followed by interment at Chapel Hill Memorial gardens.
