Donald Edward Hogg Sr.

Donald Edward Hogg Sr., 78, of OKC passed peacefully from this life on June 20, 2020. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service and a celebration of Don’s life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 2pm at the Advantage Funeral Chapel located at 7720 S. Pennsylvania in S. OKC.

Don was born on January 24, 1942 in OKC to Harold and Victoria (Jodlowski) Hogg. He was raised in OKC and graduated from Northeast High School. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably as a medic in Thailand and Guam. Following his honorable discharge, Don returned to OKC where he became a partner at Aynes Brothers Nursery.

In 1978, he was the first full-time landscape employee for the Dept. of Human Services, dedicated to improving the landscape of DHS facilities including what is now known as the OU Health Science Center. Don helped head up projects throughout the State, including projects for the Dept. of Transportation, Will Rogers International Airport, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Hissom Memorial in Tulsa, OK. He served at OUHSC for 23+ years and retired as the Associate Director of the Office of Landscape Management. The University has since built a greenhouse on campus named after him, an honor usually bestowed upon a large donor.

In 1965, Don married Melva Jean Ramsey and they had two wonderful children together, Lori and Don Jr. In 1989, Don married Veronica “Roni” Pendergraft. They spent nearly 3 decades together before her passing in 2018.

Don was a generous, humble, and selfless man who enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing his yard and reading. He was a member of the Mason’s, but Don’s faith and his family were his two priorities. He loved to spend time playing cards or dominos with his family and he was a talented cook and baker. He enjoyed supporting OU Athletics and eating Mexican food. He was happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved. He left an unmistakable mark on the lives of those he loved and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Donald Hogg Sr. was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Victoria Hogg; his wife Roni Hogg; two sisters: LaDonna Newell and Susie Shepherd; Step-son James Borden and step grandson Matthew Borden.

He is survived by his children: Lori Leonard, and husband John, and Don Hogg Jr; a granddaughter Olivia Leonard; four step-children: Micki Farrow, Kelly Fanning, Tony Nichols, and Tim Nichols; 14 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family members.
