Dixie M Williams

She had three brothers and one sister. She spent her childhood in Tampa, Florida before moving to Beaumont, Texas. As a young woman she served as Sunday School teacher at the Lutheran church in Beaumont. She was an excellent student and won many academic awards, including the school Spelling Bee. She graduated from French High School in Beaumont.

Dixie, a long-time resident of Choctaw, was survived by nine children: son Oren and his wife Mary; son Jerry; son John and his wife Trish; daughter Pat; daughter Georgia and her husband Larry; daughter Linda; daughter Lois and her husband Jerry; daughter Peggy and her husband David; and daughter Dixie and her husband Tony. She was a wonderful example to her 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. All of these children loved “Grandma” and have countless memories to share with each other and the many that have grown to love Dixie as the family circle grew to encompass many more.

Dixie had a broad scope of hobbies and interests. She loved to play games, listen to music, and dance. Card games were her favorite, especially those she played with her grandkids. Dixie was a talented seamstress, insuring that each of her girls had a new dress on Easter Sunday regardless of the circumstances. There was always a home cooked meal on the table at her house.

Dixie had countless friends who enjoyed her sense of humor and quick wit. She was involved in many activities including fishing, traveling, and socializing through her church group. Dixie had a compassion for other young mothers that needed a helping hand. She loved to serve God in her local church and others in her community and passed along her strong spirit to all those lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and four siblings.

Services to honor Dixie’s life are at Choctaw Road Baptist church at 10:00 Saturday, Oct 30, 2010.

Contributions to the church ministries are suggested in lieu of flowers.
