In Loving Memory of Dickie Jeane Shaw
Dickie Jeane Shaw, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed to be with the Lord on May 1, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on April 7, 1944, in Wynne, Arkansas, Dickie was the cherished son of the late Freddie William Shaw, Sr., and Mary Beatrice Shaw.
Dickie's journey began in the heart of Arkansas, and it was there that he cultivated the values of hard work and determination that would define his remarkable life. He later moved to Grants, New Mexico, and then Denton, Texas, where he completed his high school education. His athletic prowess shone brightly during his time at North Texas State University, where he earned a full sports scholarship. Subsequently, he continued to excel at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, leaving an indelible mark as a standout football and baseball player.
In the world of sports, Dickie's talent was undeniable, leading to a contract with the Dodgers in 1966. He also proudly wore the jersey of the Oklahoma City Plainsmen, a feeder team for the Dallas Cowboys. Beyond the field, Dickie embarked on a fulfilling career, spending twenty years as an asbestos worker before concluding his professional journey with the Oklahoma City Public Schools. His dedication, laughter, and camaraderie endeared him to colleagues and friends alike, leaving a legacy of hard work and cherished memories.
At the center of Dickie's universe was his beloved wife, Gloria Jan Shaw, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising three remarkable children whose lives are a testament to his enduring love and guidance.
A man of integrity, warmth, and boundless kindness, Dickie touched the lives of all who knew him. His stories of triumph on the field, his unwavering support for his family, and his steadfast friendship are the treasures we will forever hold dear.
In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Max Shaw, and his son, Shawn William Shaw.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Jan Shaw; his brother, Freddie William Shaw, Jr., and wife Sallye of Fort Worth, TX; his daughter, Kelly Dyann Couch, and husband Ronnie of Moore, OK; his son, Richard Gene Shaw, and wife Joy of Moore, OK; his adoring grandchildren: Tyler William Shaw and his wife Zana, Kyle William Shaw and his wife Ashle’, Kody Darris Wright and his wife Ashley, Gloria Jeane Wright, Abigayle Christine Shaw, Allison Jean Shaw, Heather Lee Dorsey, and Breanna Hope Couch; his great-grandchildren: Maelynn Shaw, Mattie Shaw, Leah Shaw, Gentry Shaw, Jocelyn Shaw, Bentlee Wright, Warren Wright, Greyson Wright, Haidyn Dorsey, Eli Dorsey, Brylee Dorsey, Aleyna Couch; nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
