David Kimberly Smith

David K. Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born January 9, 1953 in Port Huron, Michigan and is preceded in death by his parents Jean and Louis Smith. He is survived by his life partner of 37 years James (Jim) H. McPhee, son John (Angel) Jiminez, grandson Jonathan, sister Tina (David) Dobney, nieces and nephews David (Lisa) Dobney, Douglas Dobney, Julianna Dobney, Daniel (Keri) Dobney, Gabriel Dobney, Diana McFey, Laura (Jim) Swan, Henry Swan, Andrew (Andrea) McPhee, Lisa McPhee, brother-in-law Thomas (Betsy) McPhee, mom Betty McPhee and many treasured cousins and steadfast friends. Dave had more true friends than can be named, and he cared passionately about all those friends.

Dave lived his early adult years in Scotland and worked in the North Sea oilfields. In 1977 he and Jim moved first to Houston then settled in Mineral Wells and in 1988 they moved to The Woodlands, Texas before moving to Oklahoma City in 2003. Dave enjoyed highly successful careers in energy production, health care and real estate including many years as an agent and professional training coach at David Weekly Homes in Houston, which included traveling to Florida, California, Georgia and Texas to lead training seminars. He was a Regional Director for the American Red Cross in North Texas and a Regional Disaster Coordinator in Montgomery County, Texas. He served on the board of Carpenter Square Theater and on the Oklahoma State Board of Health Advisory Committee. He worked to improve the lives of disabled clients at Devereau Foundation in Victoria, Texas, Edgemeade in Mineral Wells, Texas and in recent years was an enthusiastic volunteer at Dale Rogers Training Center in Oklahoma City. Dave joined the Jewish Faith in 1995 and was active in his congregations in The Woodlands, Texas and Oklahoma City.

The world has produced few men with such buoyant optimism and a serious passion for justice and kindness in this world. We celebrate a life packed with so much professional and personal success. One of his happiest moments came after 37 years of life together, when he and Jim were legally married on September 3, 2013 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Even during the years of long terminal illness he continued to volunteer to help the ill and disabled. Dave, all of us who knew and loved you are forever thankful for your life and wish you could still be here, continuing to work to change the world into a better place for everyone. You lived with zest, dignity, and that rare sense of humor combined with a daily love of life. Bless you and the miracle of your life!

Memorials may be made to Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC.org) in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be 12:00pm Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Emmanuel Synagogue, Oklahoma City, and a Funeral service in Port Huron, Michigan are [pending]. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron, Michigan.
