On February 5, 2012, David Wayne Fleming fell peacefully asleep in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief illness. David was born in Harrah, OK, and grew up in Ponca City. After graduating from Ponca City High School, he enlisted in the Navy where he served 4 years in the Korean War Conflict. David was very studious receiving two Masters Degrees, one in Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma State University, the other in Civil Engineering at the University of California Berkeley.
David was fulfilled by his work his entire life. He worked passionately as an Engineer for the FAA. It was a lifelong progressive career for over 54 years, where he retired as Branch Manager of Operations in December of 2011. In addition to his engineering career, David contributed to education as an adjunct professor in Mathematics at OSU/OKC for over 30 years. David was happily married for 52 years to his sweet and beloved Gwendolyn Carrol who survives him. He was not only a devoted husband, but also a gracious and loving father and grandfather. His favorite times were spent with family, and he especially enjoyed listening to music and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Robert of Tulsa. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Fleming Motiei and her husband Jimmy, and his three grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, and Harrison Motiei, all of Norman. He is also survived by his sister Betty Gale Whitehead and brother Glenn of Texas; his in-law’s Shirley and Joe Reese, of Houston, Texas; Gary and Shirley Nettleton, of Aurora, CO; Ernie and Jana Nettleton, of Altus; Jerry Nettleton, of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., February 10, 2012, in the Chapel of St. Mary at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to All Souls’ Episcopal Church or charity of choice.
