Darlene Jane Russell, 73, of Oklahoma City, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. She was born to Durward and Lois Maples on July 4, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Darlene attended Gatewood Elementary, Taft Junior High School and Classen High School where she graduated in 1955. At that time she attended and was very active at the Linwood Methodist Church. Growing up she always went to camp at Turner Falls, and was a member of the Classettes Pep Club when she attended Classen High School, attending every football and basketball game. Darlene loved Classen High School; it was very special to her. Darlene married Casey Benjamin McCulley in 1957 after attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas. While there, she made the Dean’s Honor Roll and was very active in the Methodist Student Movement. Some of Darlene’s proudest moments were graduating from high school and celebrating her birthday on the fourth of July. She always enjoyed her mother’s homemade devil’s food cake, homemade ice cream and having cook outs. Darlene also enjoyed the occasional trips to Spring Lake. Later in life, Darlene worked for the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City for 14 years before she retired. She was also a prayer partner for TBN for many years using her special God given gift of ministry. Darlene as a Worthy Advisor in Rainbow Assembly #5 in Oklahoma City; received a TBN award in 2004 for excellent years of service as a prayer partner for the OKC area. Being a Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Assembly #5 in 1955 was dream come true. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Gilbert Maples. She is survived by her children; Sherri Guerra and her husband David, and David McCulley and wife Lisa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 8 AM to 12 PM. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
