Cindy Jean Walters

Cindy Jean Walters, 60, of OKC passed into the arms of her Lord on Jan 10th, 2017 in Oklahoma City, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service and a service celebrating her remarkable life will be held on Monday, February 20th at 11AM with a potluck to follow in Parish Hall at the All Souls Episcopal Church at 6400 N Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK.

Cindy was born on Feb. 19, 1956 in Aurora, CO to James and Rebecca (Chandler) Walters. She attended high school at Greenon High School where she excelled at basketball. She attended nursing school in Dallas, TX where she paid her tuition by working as a secretary at the Dallas National Commerce Bank. She was also a member of Leadership Dallas. She relocated to Vail, CO where she was employed as a nanny and it was during her time in Vail that she met Nick Dzierewienko. Cindy and Nick moved to Las Vegas where they married in 1986 and owned a tile company together.

In 1988 they returned to Texas to be closer to Cindy’s family and they went on to have three daughters: Alexsandra, Sonya and Tatiana. Following her divorce in 1993, Cindy and the girls returned to Dallas where Cindy reenrolled in Nursing school.

Those who knew Cindy knew that she was a strong woman of God. During the early 1990’s she became very active at Calvary Cathedral in Ft. Worth where she played the piano, taught Sunday school, and oftentimes led praise and worship. In 1995 she felt called to the ministry and the family spent three years in Tampa where Cindy attended Bible College at the Revival Ministry International Bible School.

After returning to Dallas again, she spent several years working as a nurse in a local hospital and volunteering in the finance dept. of the Dallas Area United Way and serving as a chair for the Boy Scouts of America in Dallas. In 2005 she retired and in 2010 she moved to Oklahoma to be near her daughter’s and grandchildren.

Cindy Walters was a kind and exuberant woman who enthusiastically lived each day to the fullest. She loved to study her Bible, play her piano, and write poems. She found great joy in being a member of All Souls Episcopal Church and the members there welcomed her unique spirit with support and acceptance. She also looked forward to volunteering for vacation bible school at All Souls. She enjoyed being active with her friends, being a member of St. Anne’s Guild, watching action movies, spending time in her garden, and reading novels. She rarely passed up an opportunity to travel and never got off the phone with her children without praying for them and doing her best to encourage them and lift their spirits. It was no secret that she adored her grandchildren and she did her best to be interested in their lives and engage them on their level. Cindy Walters was a loving mother, a proud grandma, a loyal friend, and a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and he family takes comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with her Lord she faithfully served for many years.

Cindy was preceded in death by her mother Becky Walters. She is survived by her father James Wade Walters and wife Diane; three daughters: Alex, Sonya, and Tatiana Dzierewienko; five grandchildren: Elizabeth Alcantara, Tessie Dzierewienko, Stevie Bryan, Myles Bryan, and Jackson Grosshans; four sisters: Pamela Walters McDonald and husband Gary, Patricia Walters Reed and husband Dana, Kathleen Walters Deegan, and Treaire Walters; her loyal dog “Bisquit;” her special friend Reta Seehorn; as well as numerous other friends and loved ones.
