He was born January 05, 1959 in Kingstree, South Carolina, the son of Charles Smith Thigpen and Addie Belle Thigpen.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lisa Thigpen; sister, Pamela Jean (Smitty) Wrenn; brother, Joe (Tracy) Thigpen; children: Josh (Leila) Smith, Matt Smith, Jeramy (Becky) Thigpen, Nick (Nicole) Thigpen, Jessica (Rob) Conder, Andrew (Sarah) Thigpen, and Rachel (Armin) Guldalian; and 19 grandchildren who--on this side of Heaven--will miss their PawPaw so much: Gavin, Garrison, Gabriel, Gibson Thigpen, Max, Stella, Jackson, Presley Conder, Brinlee, Layton Thigpen, Corbin, Jo Evelyn Thigpen, Maxwell, David Smith, Indi, Eire Guldalian, Ashley, Kane, Kaos Smith.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, French & Hattie Dennis and Huey & Bertha Thigpen; parents, Charles & Addie Belle Thigpen; and granddaughter, Ailey Grace who was so excited to meet her PawPaw and is holding his hand now to show him the way around Heaven.
Charlie had a long and distinguished career with the United States Postal Service for 32 years. He loved his postal family and proudly wore the title of United States Postal Inspector for the majority of his career.
On the civilian side of the house, Colonel Thigpen graduated with his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1988. Following his bachelor’s degree, Colonel Thigpen graduated with a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1996.
On the military side of the house, Colonel Thigpen graduated with his Air Command & Staff College in 2007. Continuing his professional military education, Colonel Thigpen completed Air War College in 2010. Colonel Thigpen served in Operation Desert Storm in 1990. Colonel Thigpen served a total of 36 years in the United States Air Force.
