I will never forget the kindness of Charles Trochta. In 1975 we moved to a brand new home 2doors down from Charles & Shirley. My husband Bill had never put in a brand new yard and as he is working on the yard in front, Charles comes down and offers his help. And that began a lifetime friendship between the two.  I could go on and on about the many wonderful things they shared through golf, horse racing, etc.  during both their lives, but most of all his quiet sweet spirit blessed Bill and myself. Bill passed way 12-25-21 and I’m quit sure he & Charles are enjoying the endless beauty of Heaven together. Blessings to the family

I have so many wonderful memories with my grandpa trochta. The two that always stick out in my mind are fishing and counting change. I always loved going cat fishing at the pond with grandpa. He always made us feel like the best fishermen. I can also vividly remember sitting in the basement around Christmas time counting and sorting a stocking full of change. He would give us a huge stocking full of all sorts of coins and dollar bills, it was the cousins job to divide it up evenly. And boy did we make sure it was even, down to the last penny. Looking back, it never really mattered how much money we ended up with, what mattered was the bond grandpa helped form between all his grandchildren. We were so very lucky to have such a wonderful grandfather and he will always be loved and remembered. 

Some of my favorite memories with Grandpa involve the golf course, of course! When I was little I can remember being so excited to watch the golfers pass by their house and then running out there after and collecting all the left behind tees. Grandpa would sit out there with me and let me collect them all and keep them in a little bucket out by the back fridge, every time we went to visit I was excited to add more to my collection. Another favorite memory I have is grandpa taking us out to the big hills on the golf course and letting us roll down them! 

In recent years when I would visit, grandpa always had a puzzle he was working on. I could sit with him for hours and work on them. 

I will forever hold these memories close to my heart and Grandpa will be missed greatly. 

I am very blessed to have many wonderful memories of my Grandpa. From my earliest years he would jokingly  tell me if I traded in my softball glove he would buy me a guitar. He was certain I was going to be a country western singer.  My sisters and cousins loved to visit and go fishing with grandpa. His stocked pond provided endless opportunities to catch some catfish with very little skill needed on our part. Then grandma would make  the best fried fish dinner.  He would also take me to the driving range at Quail Creek and taught me how to swing a golf club. He was so generous to his grandchildren and would spend the year saving his loose change. At Christmas he would come with a stocking full of coins that my cousins and I would all divide into equal amounts stacking the quarters, nickels, and dimes into stacks. This is one of my favorite childhood Christmas memories. He took me to the stables where his racehorses were boarded and I got to see one his horses race when it came down to Sam Houston Race Park, it won and we got to go into the winners circle for a picture. He cared and loved his family very much and will be greatly missed. 

Grandpa put up with a lot from me over the years. Being the oldest grandchild I forged the path. I may or may not have driven a golf cart with us in it into restricted area of the golf course. Possibly, taking out the caution tape and mowing down new turf, while Grandpa calmly urged me to slow down. Needless to say my cart driving days were over, and years later he still lovingly  warned me to, “Slow down, Megan” each time I visited. 

Some of my favorite memories are fishing with Grandpa. He would take us out to the pond to fish. It was amazing. Grandpa would bang on something, toss some feed in, and the fish bit like crazy. I thought I was the greatest fisher- woman ever. Years later I realized this was not how everyone fished, and my skills as a fisher-woman were moderate at best; yet, he never let on. He taught my oldest daughter, his great granddaughter, how to make stink bait, and sat with her to fish too. 

 He was a great listener and incredibly generous.  

I love you dearly Grandpa. Thank you for all of your love and patience. You will always be in my heart. 

I first met Charles in 1973 when Dana and I moved to Quail Creek, two houses north of him on Cedar Springs. Soon I realized what a special friend and neighbor Charles and Shirley would become. I admired his detail to perfection as he worked at Trochta ‘s Flower’s with his flowers and plants. I learned the hard way what a talented golfer he was. He took a few of my dollars regularly at QCGCC.  Charles and I went to Las Vegas on several occasions. We had lots of fun but never hit the big money. We often went out to his place north of town to fish in his farm pond.  There are many more memories. Striper fishing at Lake Texhoma with Charles and his brother, Bob. Also going down to Horseshoe Bay, Texas to golf with his brother, Ernest. I am sad to lose such a good friend. I know Charles was in tremendous pain with his back. I just ask God to wrap his arms around him and give him peace.

Our hearts are heavy for Shirley, Sherry, and Bruce. Charles was such a kind spirit and I will always remember being his neighbor on Cedar Springs clear back to 1973. He was the best neighbor in helping Bill get his new yard started and also just being a friend.  We’ve enjoyed many years of friendship and Bill loved the horse races, the years of playing golf together, Trips, etc. and  Bill just spoke with him about two weeks ago. 
My prayer for all his family is that the liquid love of Christ will surround you and enfold you in His peace.

Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley and his son Bruce, daughter Sherry, as well siblings Olga, Robert, Ernest plus many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
