Charles Thomas Travis

Charles “Chuck” passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2022, after a battle with cancer. He was born on July 12, 1949 in Brewton, Alabama. He was the third of five children born to Hubert and Virginia Travis. He was raised as a Southern Baptist and enjoyed serving as a deacon at several of his church homes. Growing up, he lived in various places due to his father’s military career. He followed in his father's footsteps by enlisting in the Air Force and went on to serve in the Gulf War and was forever a patriot to his country.

Chuck graduated from La Grange High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana and then went on to play football at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. After earning honors on the football field, he graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in MIS (Management Information Systems.) While attending USM, Chuck married Sheila Easterling and started his family.

Chuck was a member of the ROTC Airforce program and obtained a Master’s degree in MIS. After completing his education, he joined the Air Force as an officer and was stationed in various locations including Richmond Virginia, Biloxi Mississippi, Dayton Ohio, Montgomery Alabama, and Naples Italy. After 20 years of service, Chuck retired as a Major at Tinker Air Force base in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

Chuck married his second wife, Joanne Charness, on August 5, 2011. They settled in Edmond Oklahoma where he spent his time traveling with her, including their favorite place Italy, going to his grandchildren’s many sporting events, woodworking, and hunting with family and friends. Chuck loved telling jokes, he never met a stranger, and he truly had a love for being around people and learning new things.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Virginia Travis and his brother Leslie Travis, sister-in-law Hilda Travis, nephew Greg Travis and is now reunited with them in heaven. He is also survived by his wife, Joanne, his eldest son Josh Travis and his wife Jo, daughter Dawn Will and her husband Patrick, and his youngest son Reese Travis and his wife Laynie, and stepdaughters Marissa and Cristy. Pops was so very proud of his grandchildren – Cole, Cade and his wife Georgie, Cort, Barrett, Sloane, Sylvie, Boone, Clover, Talulah, and step grandson- Matthew.

During his short illness, Chuck was overcome with gratitude by the thoughts and prayers that came in from his close family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the doctors including Dr. Showalter and nurses who helped Chuck through his bout with cancer, also to his special caregivers Janna, Shannon, Becky, Stacey and to Integris Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either the Integris Cancer Institute in Oklahoma City (5911 W. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at Life Church (9001 Broadway Ext., Oklahoma City, OK 73114) on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10:00 am with a military graveside service following.
