Charlie was a food broker for 43 years starting as a salesman and working up to Chairman and C.E.O. when he sold his majority interest in McVay Henley Co. to six key employees in Dec. of 1990 and retired.
He served his country 44 months in the U.S. Merchant Marines and was discharged as 3rd Mate and Lt. J.G. US Maritime Service.
Charlie was the son of Evada & Glenn Reger, both deceased. He is survived by his loving wife Patsy Bross Reger, of the home. He is also survived by two sisters, Marlene Zahn of Brandon, Florida, and her husband Don; and Louise Van Buskirk of Shawnee, Kansas.
Charlie loved to fish and started a fishing club called the “Happy Hookers.” He was a former deacon and treasurer of Central Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club, The Petroleum Club, Sportsman’s Country Club, Men’s Dinner Club, Young men’s Club, and the Revelers Dance Club. He was fond of dancing and playing bridge, fishing, and hunting. Charlie currently belongs to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Charlie was a true gentleman and a man of his word-if he gave you a hand shake, you could take it to the bank. He will be forever missed.
