Charles Clovis “Charlie” Reese was born March 20, 1934, in Oklahoma City and passed away in Oklahoma City on June 25, 2011. Charlie was preceded in death by his Mother, Lillie Mae Wherry, on December 29, 2005.
Charlie served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict; in Europe during the mid-1950’s, then finishing his military duties at Ft. Sill. Charlie spent his career as an auditor for the State of Oklahoma in the State Auditor’s office. He was responsible for auditing the financial accountability of many State Agencies; including the Oklahoma State Prison system, the Oklahoma Historical Society, Tag Agencies, and many special projects.
After his retirement, Charlie was well known in the horse racing community as an expert handicapper and helped with pre-race seminars for Remington Park patrons for many years. The racing community was where he felt most at home and Remington Park and the fans there have lost a true asset and friend in his passing.
Charlie was known for his quick wit and his friendly demeanor. He was never lacking for a quick joke or comeback. His list of friends and acquaintances in the Oklahoma City area are too numerous to mention. He was so loved in this community and enjoyed frequent spur of the moment visits to friends’ homes and trips to his favorite spots such as Hot Springs, Arkansas; Reno, Nevada; and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Mr. Reese is survived by his children: Kim Bates of Ovilla, Texas; Lorraine Scott of Oklahoma City; and Steve Reese of Edmond. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren – Jason and Christopher Bates, Kelli Powers, Jessica Fox, and Steven, Daniel, and Angelina Reese; and one very special great grandson – Wyatt E. Powers.
A very special thanks goes out to his caretakers – Teresa Moore and Cashinda Starr Webb. The family is also very grateful to a special man at St. Anthony’s – Dr. Kumar – who took a keen and personal interest in Dad. These three individuals helped make the final years of his life very comfortable, fulfilling, and enjoyable.
Dad – you will be so missed – not just by your family, but by your countless friends and “fans.” We are celebrating your entry into Heaven and your reunion with your mother today.
Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 8:00pm. Funeral services will be 9am, Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel 13400 N Kelley in OKC, with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
