Of her five siblings, four have predeceased her, with her brother, Rayford, living in Lake Eufala. She graduated from Fox High School.
While working in Oklahoma City as a secretary for Illinois Central Railroad, she met Shirl Wright who was an employee of Travelers Insurance in the same building. After about a year of dating, they were married on June 15th, 1956 and shared the next 66 years of life together as husband and wife.
1958 quickly brought a change as Shirl was transferred to the Los Angeles office of Travelers Insurance. The two moved to an apartment in what was then the small suburb community of Glendale, a few miles outside of LA. Carmelita began work for Belridge Oil but left the workplace at the birth of her first son, Craig, on December 6th, 1958. She proceeded to pour her life into her family, supporting her husband in his work, while raising Craig and later, her second son, Steven, who was born on August 31st, 1967.
A new son necessitated a move to a larger home and they bought their first house together in 1967. However, when the house they had admired for years became available in 1976 they were able to purchase it and make it home for the next twenty years, only selling to move back to Oklahoma in 1995, to Edmond, in the community of Oaktree where she also was a member of the Oaktree Country Club. Oaktree was home for the next 22 years until coming to the Mon Abri complex, still in Edmond, for the final five years of her earthly life.
Carmelita loved bridge and always was a member of multiple bridge groups, both womens and married couples. She also was a big sports fan, whether rooting for the Dodgers in Los Angeles or the Oklahoma City Thunder. Her support of the Oklahoma Sooners was a constant across all sports, but especially the girls in softball and of course the boys in football. She loved owls and had a large collection of owl figurines that she acquired over her lifetime. Carmelita will be missed by all who knew her.
