Billy Wayne Scarberry passed from this life on October 24, 2020. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service. Bill’s celebration of life will be livestreamed on Facebook live on Tuesday, Oct 27th at 10am at www.facebook.com/advantageokc/
Bill was born on July 17, 1933 in Hobart, OK, to Gene and Georgia Scarberry. He graduated from Hobart High School and moved to OKC in 1951 and joined the US Navy. He was the oldest of three children. In 1956 he married Evalin Thompson and to the union was born a daughter Georgia Ann Scarberry.
Bill always had a love of music and in 1965 he joined the choir at Mayridge Baptist Church and a few years later he became the church’s Choir Director. He went on to serve at Windsor Hills, Southside in Altus, Central Hillcrest in OKC, South Del (now Bryant Ave), Crown Heights, Del View, Canadian Valley in Yukon, retiring in 1999 from Crestview in OKC. During those years Bill had the incredible opportunity to do revivals with the late Oscar Wells, Warren Terry, and Dr. Harold Matheny.
Following his time in the US Navy, Bill was employed in electrical motor repair. He later moved into commercial sales. He retired from Sears Roebuck as a repairman, later becoming a salesman for Capital Electric. Bill spent 20 years with Industrial Coil working as their salesman, a job he enjoyed until his passing. While with Industrial Coil, Bill traveled extensively, attending numerous Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) conventions.
Bill is survived by his wife Evalin Scarberry of the home; daughter Ann Stokes and husband Robin of Plano, TX; five grandchildren: Grace Wood and husband Andy of Birmingham, AL, Caleb Stokes and wife Taylor of Bangkok, Thailand, and Ben, Faith, and Hope Stokes of Plano, TX, two great grandchildren: Emmanuel and Elisha.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Georgia Scarberry; his in-laws: Harry and Georgia Thompson; his sister: Patricia Taylor; two nieces: Tiffany Reece and Mandi Hardin.
