Beulah Faye Shaw was born on November 14, 1919 near Lavaca, a small and very intimate community in Sebastian County in Western Arkansas. Her parents were J.E. and Gertrude (Hutchens) Shaw. She passed from this life at home on Sunday, March 26 at the age of one hundred three years, four months and seven days. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1929, settling in the vicinity of Geary, Oklahoma where Faye lived through childhood, finishing her education and graduating from Geary High School in 1937.
She was an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Corporation and the American Telephone and Telegraph Company for 41 years, from 1943 -1984. She began her career as a Switchboard Operator in El Reno, Oklahoma, promoting to become the Assistant Chief Operator in Medford, Oklahoma, and Chief Operator in Idabel, Oklahoma. She then transferred to the Engineering Department and worked as a Traveling Technician out of the Muskogee, Oklahoma Office, moving to Oklahoma City in 1968 where she worked until retirement.
Faye was previously a member of Evangel Assembly of God, Oklahoma City. At her death she was a member of the Bethany First Assembly of God, Bethany, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Elmer Elvus Shaw and Warren Curtis Shaw and additionally two nephews Wesley Allen Shaw and David Warren Shaw.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Buchtel of the home.
Faye was loved and admired by a host of friends and extended family members as attested by the many of them that came to visit her on special and even random occasions. She was especially fond of her caregivers who assisted her in her final years and they loved her dearly.
A service to celebrate Faye’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
