She was married to Donald Lee Sullivan on 06-20-1964.
She was survived by children, Sherry Darrow and Bryan and Dana Carter, grandchildren Cora Parker and Kyla Carter, and many nieces and nephews.
Bert's first job when she moved from Chickasha to the "big city" was as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell in downtown Oklahoma City. She brought her special energy and bubbly personality to other rewarding jobs like managing the Merle Norman & Hallmark store, selling Tupperware as a young mother, as a realtor with Abide, and driving the school bus for Putnam City schools.
Bert began taking piano lessons at the age of five, and she blessed many churchgoers over the years playing traditional Baptist hymns in services at 40th Street Baptist Church, 1st Baptist Church in Bethany, First Methodist Church in Bethany and New Covenant Methodist Church in Edmond.
As a teen, she excelled at volleyball and basketball playing for Friend School in Chickasha. Bert was a talented bowler during her league days at Windsor Hills Bowling Alley, with a smart purple shirt and purple pearl ball.
Bert enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life during her varied travel experiences. As a young wife, she and her husband went to Las Vegas with friends to see Elvis and other great acts. They snorkeled the Bahamas, cruised Alaska, and took a memorable 20th anniversary trip to Europe. After her husband retired, they traveled the states in an RV, and finally enjoyed a dozen years as snowbirds in Raymondville Texas.
In the early 90s, Don took a job transfer that moved them to Absecon New Jersey. There, with an empty nest, they renovated a Sears Victorian Kit Home. After 5 years with grand babies on the way, they returned to Oklahoma. Bert became interested in her family's genealogy, and soon she was an expert on tracing family trees and grave rubbings.
Bert was devoted to her family, and together they enjoyed many cross-country car trips, bicycling around their Bethany neighborhood with His and Hers matching bikes, having family and friends come over for a swim and a popsicle, waterskiing on Lake Arbuckle, and especially fishing anywhere with the Deens.
At every house Bert and Don shared, she looked forward to buying nursery flats of flowers every Spring for her colorful flower beds.
Bert and Don were the best grandparents Cora and Kyla could ask for. Every visit was an adventure from shopping, visiting local landmarks and the occasional weekend trip to Dallas. Grandma and Pawpaw spent their time with them building doll houses, airplanes and setting up electric trains, but the best part was when pawpaw and grandma would make them a cup of coffee (more milk and sugar, than coffee) and they would sit on the back porch and watch the wildlife on their pond
Bertha Grace loved her husband and family, and God above all else.
A celebration of life for Bertha will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. A catered reception will follow at the Memorial Park Historic Chapel.
